We are all surrounded by darkness. And we are all drawn to the light.
The Orkney Islands north of Scotland are steeped in stories of selkies, seal folk who swim in cold ocean waters and shed their skins to sing and dance on land. One young girl named Isla uses legends of selkie brides to understand her parents’ troubled marriage and navigate her strained relationship with her mother. As Isla comes of age, she confronts the sacred points of transformation found between sea and land, nature and civilization, and past and present, uncovering the key to her identity.
Selkie Moon is a novella for all those who believe stories can illuminate the deepest and darkest waters of the human soul.

Mothers of Enchantment: New Tales of Fairy Godmothers, edited by Kate Wolford, offers a magical new look at the role of the godparent in fairy tales. The twelve stories in this anthology retell traditional stories like Pinocchio, Rumpelstiltskin, Beauty and the Beast and The Frog Prince.
My piece in the anthology, "A Story of Soil and Stardust," blends Cinderella with Vasilisa the Beautiful, presenting Baba Yaga, the witch from Slavic folklore, as a fairy godmother. My story was nominated for the Pushcart Prize.

The Best of Eternal Haunted Summer: A Thirteenth Anniversary Edition, edited by Rebecca Buchanan, is a collection of stunning stories and poems originally published across thirteen years of Eternal Haunted Summer.
My poem in the collection, "The Garden of Evening," explores the mystical realm of the Hesperides, the Greek nymphs who tend an ancient garden filled with golden apples. It starts like this:
To find it you must sail beyond the sunset,
Where wild waters whirl with western stars,
Bathing beneath the ocean's salty surface
As day slides into deep-hued night.

The Magic of Us is a collection of poetry published and edited by Brigid Levi at Moms Who Write. All proceeds from book sales for the collection are donated to The Pacific Birth Collective, an organization "dedicated to the education, support, and advocacy for birth and wellness choices across Hawaii," especially for those impacted by the Maui fires.
My poem in the collection, "The Magic in the Tending," meditates on the creative processes of growing, nurturing, and writing. It starts like this:
It may begin with planting,
sowing seeds in rows of earth,
coaxing shoots through stone and dirt,
watching newborn blooms unfurl on windswept banks
where willows weep.
